At the deepest end of the Iya Valley is the base of the legendary Mt Tsurugi, which at 1955m it is the 2nd highest mountain in western Japan. From out here, a chairlift goes most of the way up to about 1750m, and from this upper lift station area you can have a panoramic view down into the Iya Valley (without needing to actually hike).

The chairlift ride takes about 15 minutes each way, and we allow for about 15 minutes from the upper lift station to enjoy the view, along with the extra time needed to drive to/from the lower lift station.

Please note that on rainy days it may be too cloudy and wet to enjoy, so we can make a final decision about going on the day of your tour. And if you would like to hike beyond the chairlift up to the top of the mountain, we can do that too, but it takes about another 2+ hours total. Please check our Tsurugi Hiking Tours.
